Birth Control Pills

Birth control is a method in which women prevent their pregnancy by using different methods like contraceptive pill (birth control pills), vaginal rings, vaginal patches, implantation, sterilization and surgical methods.

To overcome unwanted pregnancy problem, medical science invents a new and effective method, which is known as birth control pill or contraceptive pills. A female can simply avoid pregnancy by using birth control pills on a regular basis.

Birth control pills are effectively used to prevent their pregnancy by inhibiting the release of an egg from the ovary of a female and stop the process of fertilization (sperm meeting with an egg).

Birth control pills (progesterone+ estrogen) avoid pregnancy by inhibiting the release of FSH (follicle stimulating hormones) and LH (luteinizing hormone) from the pituitary gland of the brain. LH and FSH play a significant role in the growth and development of an egg ad uterus lining for implantation. With the inhibition of these hormones, it creates lots of difficulty for the sperm to penetrate into the vagina.

Nowadays, there are various kinds of contraceptive pills are available in the drug market like-

  • Combined birth control pills (Progesterone+ Estrogen) - Yasmin, Yaz, Dronis, Femilo, Mircette, Ovral and G.
  • Emergency or morning after pill- Plan B and Unwanted 72
  • Single progestin pill- Norethindrone and Norethisterone

A female should start the consumption of birth control pills on the first day of your menstruation. She should consume a single hormonal tablet for 21 days and then start the intake of non-hormonal pills for 7 days.
